St. Romanus and St. Lupicinus
These two saints were brothers who lived in the 5th century in France. The older of the two, Romanus, always wanted to be very close to God and become a saint. To do this, he consulted with a holy monk in the town who helped him decide where to live. The monk gave Romanus a book to take with him, Lives of the Fathers of the Dessert by Cassian.

St. Gabriel of Our Lady of Sorrows
St. Gabriel was born in 1838 in Assisi, Italy. He was given the name Francis at birth after the great saint, St. Francis of Assisi. His mother died when he was only 4 years old so his father brought in a governess to look after Francis and his brothers and sisters.

St. Prophyry
Porphyry was born in the 4th century to wealthy parents. He lived in Thessalonica in the northern part of Greece. When he was 25, he left home and went to Jesus to join a monastery.
After 5 years, he went to the Holy Land so he could see first-hand the sacred places where Jesus lived and walked. While he was there, he was taken aback by the poverty of some, something he had not known in Thessalonica where he grew up.  .....

St. Caesarius
St. Caesarius lived in the 4th century in what is now modern day Turkey. His father was Bishop of Nazianzen (the clergy were allowed to marry in those days) and his brother was St. Gregory of Nazianzen.
Both brothers received excellent educations growing up. While Gregory wanted to be a priest, Caesarius wanted to become a medical doctor. Each brother attended the educational institution that enabled them to achiev.....

The emperor Valerian was especially brutal in his persecutions of the early Christians. In the year 258, he had St. Cyprian executed who had many followers. The official who arrested St. Cyprian and had him martyred died himself shortly afterward. His replacement, a man named Solon, was afraid for his safety because there was such uproar over the killing of St. Cyprian and there were plots on his li.....

St. Polycarp
St. Polycarp was born in the first century between the years 75 and 80. He was a disciple of St. John, one of the original 12 apostles. He loved Jesus and all that John taught him and for many years, he shared these teachings with the people in Smyrna in Turkey where he was priest and then Bishop.
The early Christians there suffered greatly at the hands of Marcus Aurelius, the emperor of Rome. Someone turned Polycar.....

Chair of St. Peter
St. Peter was the prince of the apostles. He was personally chosen by Jesus to be his rock, his successor on earth, the leader of his church.
Peter was commissioned to preach the Gospel along with the other disciples after Jesus rose from the dead and ascended to heaven. At first, Peter preached in the eastern cities of Antioch and Jerusalem but he moved on to Rome which was the center of the world at the time.

St. Peter Damian was born in 1007. His parents died when the saint was very young and he became an orphan. An older brother took him in but he neglected and starved him. Then another brother, named Damian, took in his little brother Peter and fed, loved and cared for him. He encouraged him in his studies and Peter eventually became a teacher at the university level.

St. Eucherius was born in France in the eighth century. He came from a wealthy family and was given a good education. Eucherius loved the Bible. It was his constant friend.

St. Barbatus
St. Barbatus was born in Benevento, Italy in the year 612. He was a good boy, brought up in a good home and he loved to read the Bible. As soon as he was old enough, he became a priest. Eventually, he was made pastor of a church in another town. He encouraged his flock to give up sinful ways and follow the Gospel but they did not like him telling them how to live so they persecuted him and drove him away.

St. Bernadette
St. Bernadette was born in Lourdes, France in 1844. Her parents were poor and Bernadette was frail. In 1859, when Bernadette and her younger sister were gathering firewood, a beautiful lady wearing blue and white appeared to her at the grotto of Massabielle. She made the sign of the cross with an ivory and gold rosary and told Bernadette to do penance and pray for the sinners of the world. Bernadette immediately .....

Seven Founders of the Servite Order
The seven saints that are honored today lived in the 13th century and were all from Florence, Italy. They loved Mary, the Mother of God and were in a confraternity of the Blessed Virgin Mary. On the feast of the Assumption, Mary appeared to the seven men. She asked them to leave the world and to go live quietly with God. So they did and after for several years, sought further advice from the bishop as to what rule.....

St. Onesimus
Onesimus lived during the first century. He was a slave who robbed his master and ran away to Rome. There, he went to see St. Paul, the great disciple of Jesus who was in prison. Paul embraced Onesimus like a son and helped him to understand why stealing was wrong. Then Paul taught him the ways of Jesus and Christianity. Onesimus was baptized into the faith.

St. Faustina and St. Jovita
St. Faustina and St. Jovita were brothers who lived in Brescia, Italy in the second century during the rule of the Emperor Hadrian. There were many Christians being put to death at the time under his orders. Nonetheless, both brothers loved Jesus and grew up following his Gospel and doing works of charity wherever they could. Despite the persecutions, they could not stop talking about Jesus everywhere they went.....
